WEEK 3, Day 1: Carrying the Divine Seed

Seeds are full of potential. The tiniest beginnings can lead to unimagined outcomes. They represent growth and transformation and new life. Every seed contains the potential for a future plant. The divine seed was planted in Mary and though she had no idea of the outcome, she trusted the message given to her, but not without some questions. She had faith that what was happening to her would bring forth fruit. She embraced the moment with courage and hope though she was unaware of what lay ahead.
Thomas Merton wrote, "You do not need to know precisely what is happening,
or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities
and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with
courage, faith and hope."
I wonder how we could be more like Mary--to enter into an incomprehensible situation wholeheartedly. Take some time to imagine God bending over and planting a divine seed within you right now or perhaps there is already a seed lying dormant that wants to germinate. What's the invitation? Do you have some questions for God about the seed? What does this experience feel like? What is necessary for this seed to grow? Can you say yes, like Mary, and have courage to let the seed grow even though there are many unknowns.
God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or
guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us
around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.
-Ephesians 3:20 Message.
Life begins
It begins in deadly hearts of star,
in elements consumed, transfigured
in refining heat.
It begins deep within, in the murderous
seething of earth innards.
It begins in womb-dark murk and musk of soil.
in death and rot and rank decay,
in spilled seeds split and broken down,
in loss, collapse and festering entombed,
by blessed unseen bugs and germs
digesting darkness into light.
In awful places this miracle,
this life, begins.
Brokenness becomes something.
In darkness, deaths, and desolations
by decree
is the birth of what shall be.

Song: Lead to the Light, Bethani
Lyrics:
Lead me to the Light
Help me to make it through
Lead me, lead me into the Light.
Make my eyes to see
All that I could be
Lead me, Lead me into the Light.
Turn my night to day.
Take my hurt away.
Help me to be with you
Lead me, Lead me into the Light.
Prayer: Help me to respond to the divine seed and let God nurture its growth. Lead me into the Light.
